Menu awesome, need to go back to assess

Down in Lorne for a bucks weekend, Matt and I were keen for some good coffee on a horrible, cold, coastal Victorian September morning. We wandered up and down Lorne's main street looking for a good coffee machine. We happened upon the The Bottle of Milk. Menu looked good, nice machine, Bonsoy - in we go. Coffee was passable. Matt said about a 5 - he has a more practised palate than I. I ordered a soy latte and that was ok too. The breakfast was average. It was clean, but the toast was not a nice softish thick sourdought to really sink your teeth into. Tomatoes, not ripe enough. Some olive oil on the mix would have been a nice touch. Free range eggs, poached. But not poached properly. Rather, they were put in one of those egg poaching things. Not cool.

Was in Lorne in the middle of January 2010. Had coffee here in the morning x 4 mornings - using 7 Seeds beans at the time. The coffee was good - fine short macchiatos and strong lattes. Have to like a place that has a handwritten sign "No Decaf, only one size of cup".

The burgers were excellent and this place was packed throughout the day until early evening.

Top notch caffeine hit

Great food and great service. Coffee was excellent and there was no pressure to move on when just drinking and shooting the breeze.

Coffee is rubbish!

Interestingly, the Good Food guide rates The Bottle of Milk as "The" place for coffee - clearly a misprint ... actually the coffee at that place was a good supplement to the transmission oil in my car. Backpackers running the coffee machine, burning milk, buzzing flies and music that somehow makes you feel like your in a 60's rock concert .... shish!
