Great coffee, period.

I go to 7grams nearly every day; Med Soy Latte.

In about 2 years of going there, I've had maybe 5 less than average coffees, 10 average ones and the rest are good to excellent.

They are a well-oiled machine in there; I will walk in and my coffee will usually be rolling.

It's a no fuss place.

Watching Con or his brother pull shots, you appreciate their dedication to what they do.

I can't give 7grams less than 5 stars.

Highly recommended.

Definitely gone downhill

The original twin brother baristas extraordinaire have left (sold) 7 Grams recently, and given they were such a big part of the coffee experience, I thin 7 Grams needs a re-review.
The brothers spent about 3 months grooming the new baristas, and as the new baristas took over, there was a noticeable change in the coffee quality.

It's definitely not as good as it used to be, and what's with the cheap Coles Soy milk?

I go there regularly as well, at least a few times a day, and I have never had a bad coffee there, maybe the odd average one, but never a bad one. I think the new owners are far more personable that the old owners, who used to make me uncomfortable with all their screaming at each other.

Funny you mention the soy milk, as I had the same thought. I did ask the owner, and he said the soy milk they used to use was recalled and has been discontinued, so he did a taste test over one week period using all different sorts of soy, and that the coles brand got the thumbs up from 99% of the regular soy drinkers. Go figure hey!

Also the hot food and their salad selection has dramatically improved with the new owners! Gone is the bain marie from the 70's, and their salad selection is to die for.

I give it 2 very enthusiastic thumbs up.

Couldn't disagree with this review more, I regularly went there under the original owners and rated it as the best coffee I'd found, but frankly I'd had better feeds from a service station at 3am.

Under the new ownership I love the coffee every bit as much, but now the food is fantastic and the environment is decidedly less stressful!

7 Grams is fairly unassuming looking place, however they make really good coffee. Its one of the few cafes in melbourne that consistently punch out quality expresso. The food is good, staff are friendly. What more could you ask for?
